It is examined here the challenges that undermined ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) in its intervention in the Liberian Civil War as a sub-regional strategy in securing peace in West Africa. Documnentary evidence provided the requisite data analyzed qualitatively premised on systems theory. ECOMOG represented an African solution to an African problem. The complex fragmentation of the rebel groups and multiplication of the parties in the conflict complicated the intervention and prolonged the attempts at early resolution of the conflict. The dawdling and oscillating commitment on the part of member countries further gave vent to rebels' recalcitrance. Post Berlin world suggest a complex multi-polar constellation of farces giving rise to irregular conflicts which resolution must find impetus in sub-regional efforts which ECOMOG represents. This initiative is to be viewed as a wakeup call for Africa to take responsibility for its future stability.
